Y “Yeah. I think I’ll be able to remake the rest into a blouse, dress, or bag.”
S “That looks interesting”

Y “By the way, what are you sewing?”

S「急に何を始めるの？朝の四時よ。それは着物ですか？」
Y「今週末か来週末に美術館へ行ってみようかなって。その日のために、いつものワンピースの襟や袖口を変えてみようかなって。２、３時間の息抜きだけど、Yはとても喜ぶんと思うんだ。」
S「それでワンピースも？」
Y「ほんの少しだけ旅行気分。」
S「旅行？２、３時間の？」
Y「うん。和服で何日も旅行したりする時、出発前に伊達襟に何枚も布地を重ねて縫い付けておくことがあるの。旅行1日目が終わったらら、一番上の布を固定している糸を切り、剥がす。すると違う柄の布地を次の日に襟元に出すことができるの。」
S「そう。それで？」
Y「ワンピースにもそれをやってみたら面白いんじゃないかなって思ってたの。組み合わせを楽しむってことです。その布の組み合わせはもう二度とないかもしれない。そう思えば、ただの数時間もほんの少しだけ特別になるような気もする。」
S「なるほどね。」
Y「この前、コインランドリーで会社の制服を洗濯していた時、そこにいたお婆さんと話してたんだけど、そのお婆さんが、「私たちの最近のお洋服には情緒がないのよね」って。この言葉を聞いた時私は、このお婆さんはしばしば着物を着る人なんだなって思って。それから着物のお話をしたの。組み合わせを変えて、季節や目的、誰と会うか、行く場所に合わせるって色々考えてしまうけど、面白いことなんですよって。」
S「なるほどね。」
Y「着物のリメイクには時間がかかります。でも襟や袖口を、伊達襟のように楽しむことは、そんなに大変じゃないなって思いました。だから今度お出かけする時、ちょっとやってみようかなって。」
S「そうなの。」
Y「僕はこのストライプがいいと思ってるんだけど、お花の方がいいっていう人が多そうだな。どう思う？」
S「そうね。私ならお花柄を選ぶわ。」
Y「だよね。」
S「いいじゃない？本当に好きな方にすれば。例え変になったっていいじゃない？」
Y「じゃ、ストライプを選ぶことにします。裾を切ってみるね。」
S「着物って長く真っ直ぐ縫われてできてるのね。」
Y「うん。残りの部分は、ブラウスかワンピースかバッグにリメイクできるようにしておこうと思う。」
S「そう。」
Y「出来上がったら、一番に見せますよ。」
S「そうしてちょうだい。楽しみにしてるわ。」
Y「ところであなたは何を縫っているの？」
S「最近、ずっと作業してばかりで自分の着るものにまるで無頓着なあの人が目についてしょうがないのよ。だから、その人の着る物を縫ってあげたりほつれたところを縫い合わせたりしているの。」
Y「忙しそうですね。」
S「私が忙しそうねとあなたは言いましたか？あなたが隣に貼ったからですよ。」
Y「あ、そういうことですか。ダビンチさん、お優しい方がお隣でよかったですね。」
D「え、何のこと？それより、今手が話せないんだ。」
S「どうぞ続けてください。最近はダビンチさんが作業中であっても、私が着替えさせるのに慣れてきましたわ。彼は私に服を脱がされたことにも彼は気づかないんです。彼はとても制作に夢中になって居ますから。最近は一つのボタンで留めることのできる服を彼に着せています。ですから容易ですよ。」
Y「ダビンチさんは下着着てるんですか？」
S「彼は下着を着ていないことがよくあるわね。まあ、もう慣れたものですわ。」
Y「本当にお疲れ様です。これからもよろしくお願いします。」
B「僕のお洋服のボランも取れちゃったんだ。縫ってくれたら嬉しいな。」
S「いいわよ。どのボタンがいいの？」
B「大きいのがいい。」
S「あらら。穴に合うかしらね。」
Y「私のも良かったら使ってください。たくさんありますから。」
数日後。
Y「お洋服の伊達襟、できました。」
S「あらそう。私に見せてみて。」
Y「これです。ちょっとワンピースが古風になったわ。このワンピース、ちょっとナウシカっぽくて好きだったけど、それは無くなったわ。」
S「悪くはないんじゃない？Yに着せてみれば？」
Y「今週末、美術館へ行くときに着せたいと思います。」
S「あなたは何を着ていくの？」
Y「僕はワンピースは着ないよ。女の子みたいじゃないか。僕はジャケットとズボン。」
S「そう。美術館で、写真撮ってきて見せて。たまには、Yと一緒に写真でも撮ったら？」
Y「うん。写真、撮ったら見せるね。」
